ESA/NASA’s Solar and Heliospheric Observatory, or SOHO, was launched in 1995 to study the internal structure of the sun, its extensive outer atmosphere, and the origin of the constant outflow of solar material from the sun, known as the solar wind. SOHO revolutionized heliophysics, providing the basis for thousands of scientific papers, and inadvertently became the greatest comet hunter of all time, discovering over 3,000 comets. To this day, SOHO provides valuable data about the sun.
