James Webb Space Telescopes Folds Its Wings

This time-lapse shows the Webbcam view of the giant cleanroom at NASA Goddard. The operation shown here is the folding back, or stowing, of the two “wings” of the James Webb Space Telescope. Each wing holds three of its primary mirror segments. The telescope is being prepped for environmental testing. When Webb launches, both wings will be stowed in this position, which enables the mirror to fit into the launch vehicle. Enjoy and share……..

Jilted lovers: Hyper Velocity Wandering Stars Causing havoc wherever they pass, one theory paints hypervelocity wandering stars as one part of a couple (binary system). Of course the other part was consumed by a black hole. Morbid? Maybe. “That’s because hypervelocity stars are thought to form when the supermassive black hole at the center of a galaxy devours one star in a binary system and ejects its twin, flinging it through space at superfast speeds, said study author Keith Hawkins, […]

    Large Hadron Collider

CERN’s Large Hadron Collider is one of humanity’s most complicated pieces of machinery ever built. In their quest to discover the answers to the formation and state of the universe there have been a few other things pop up (and disappear almost instantly). The Large Hadron Collider (LHC) is the world’s largest and most powerful particle collider, built by the European Organization for Nuclear Research (CERN) from 1998 to 2008. Its aim is to allow physicists to test the predictions […]
